Try answering the question first, and then check out my answer. I've left my planning and notes for you as well.

The Question

Write your answer in 220-260 words in an appropriate style.

You have attended a panel discussion entitled: "Today's youth is the same mixture of good and bad characteristics as always." You have made the notes below:

"They do more voluntary work than ever."

Example Answer

People often comment that today’s youth have changed drastically from previous generations. However, it can be argued that youth today exhibit the same level of self confidence and self-centeredness that people always have. This essay will argue that these traits are an important part of transitioning into adulthood, and that people have always had these characteristics.

For starters, young people have always demonstrated high levels of confidence. While in the past, people used to use this confidence to get married and have families at a young age, now they are encouraged to go to university where they gain their independence and become self-assured there. So while how they gain these traits has definitely changed, the level of confidence is still the same between today’s youth and generations from years ago.

Furthermore, the youth of today are also as self-centred as always. It can be argued that it’s an important part of learning about oneself and gaining an identity, as children need to learn how to push back against their parents and stick up for their wants and beliefs. This process is a natural part of life as children need a sense of self in order to leave the nest and build their lives independent of their parents’. Without this, children would not have the self-reliance needed to go forth into adulthood.

In summary, young people have always been self-centred and confident, as it is a key part of growing up and becoming an adult. Moreover, generations throughout history have exhibited these traits.
