B2 First Exam
B2 First Speaking Paper
The B2 First Speaking section is a face-to-face*, informal discussion with an examiner and another student.
The test is divided into 4 parts and is designed to test your pronunciation, fluency, grammar and vocabulary.
*In the future, there should be an option to do the exam remotely, online.
Duration:
About 15 minutes.
There are 4 parts.
There will be two examiners in the room. One will ask questions and the other will take notes.
Note: the last group of the day may have 3 students in it.
Overview
Part 1
Duration: 2 minutes
The examiner asks you a question about your life. You reply to the examiner.
You don't talk to your partner in this part of the exam.
Part 2
Duration: 4 - 5 minutes
You have 1 minute to talk about two photos by yourself, and then respond to a question about your partner’s photos.
Part 3
Duration: 4 minutes
You are given a page with a question and 5 key words or phrases linked to it. You must discuss the question, taking in consideration the different points with your partner(s) for 2 minutes. Then the examiner will both ask you a follow-up question. You have 1 minute to discuss this question with your partner(s).
Part 4
Duration: 4 minutes
You will expand on the topic of part 3 in more detail. During this part, you will also discuss the questions with your partner(s).
