Writing Part 1
The Conclusion
B2 First Exam
In this section:
This section will discuss what you need to do in order to write a conclusion paragraph for a B2 First Part 1 Essay.
Here is the B2 First Part 1 essay example I will be referring to in this section:
In your English class you have been talking about education. Now your English teacher has asked you to write an essay for homework.
Write your essay using all the notes and giving reasons for your point of view.
Some parents teach their children at home rather than sending them to school. Is this a good or bad thing for the children?
Notes
Write about:
having a parent as a teacher
making friends
.......................... (your own idea)
140 - 190 words
The Conclusion
The conclusion will finish your essay. Your conclusion should:
Summarize the main points of your essay.
Restate your opinion, if needed.
Use varied language, by paraphrasing and synonyms.
Not have new ideas.
Tips
Never write any new ideas in your conclusion. A conclusion should always simply restate the ideas you have in the rest of the essay.
Make sure you address the main topic in the conclusion. The conclusion should state what you think about the question and make it clear how you feel about the issue.
Vary your language. Show that you have a wide vocabulary by paraphrasing.
Don’t include everything. Don't go into detail. Instead, summarize your main points.
Always write one. It is very difficult to get a good score in this task if haven’t finished your essay with a conclusion. Even if you are running out of time, write one.
The simplest way to write a conclusion is by looking at your introduction and paraphrase it.
Example
Here is the introductory sentence we wrote for the above task:
Introduction:
Some families homeschool their children instead of using the traditional educational system. However, does this do more good or harm to a child? After considering the impact of having a parent as a teacher on a child, their ability to make friends, and the quality of education they receive, it can be said that homeschooling is in fact bad for a child.
Our conclusion is simply going to paraphrase this introduction and restate our key points and opinion:
Conclusion:
In conclusion, we can see that homeschooling creates a number of problems. Having parents as educators, not having classmates to make friends with, and lack of official teaching credentials can all negatively impact a child. It is clear that sending a child to school outside of the home is the best option for them.
Remember that the conclusion has no new information or ideas. It only restates what was already said.
