Overview

In Part 8 of the Reading and Use of English paper of the C1 Advanced Exam, you are given a long text that is broken into smaller sections, as well as 10 statements. You must match each statement to the section of the text that gives the information.

It's possible for paragraphs to have multiple answers.

Scoring

• You are awarded 1 point for each correct answer in this section.

Process

• • • Start by reading the introduction to the task and the title of the article - they give you an idea of what the text is about

    • Then, read the questions first to have an idea of what you're looking for

    • Start with the first paragraph. Read it carefully. See how many options you can find in that portion of text. When you think you’ve found an answer, underline where it is in the text; it may end up being wrong later so it’s good to know where things are

    • After you think you've found everything there, move on and repeat the process with the next passage

Tips

• • • Look for synonyms - if a word is in both the text and in the question it is probably NOT the answer

    • Read one paragraph at a time and then check which answers are in it. Don't look at one question and then scan the entire text - that takes too much time.
