Use of English
Part 2: Open Cloze
B2 First Exam
Overview
On Part 2 of the Reading and Use of English paper of the B2 First Exam, you'll be given a text with missing words. You have to fill in the gaps.
How it works
You must only write one word.
Do not use contractions (like don't or I'll) - these count as 2 words. However, cannot = 1 word.
You must write in CAPITAL ANSWERS on the answer sheet.
Sometimes multiple answers are possible.
Check your spelling.
Scoring
You are awarded 1 point for each correct answer in this section.
You must use correct spelling in your answers in this section. Misspelled responses will be marked wrong. Answers written without capital letters will be marked wrong.
Tips
Read the entire sentence to know what the author wants to say. Sometimes the answers are actually negative answers.
Sometimes you'll be able to choose an answer just by looking at the words before and after the gap.
Sometimes you have to read the whole sentence, especially when there are linking words.
If your answer is a verb, make sure it agrees with the subject. i.e. I go, you go, he goes.
Never use abbreviations.
Write in capital letters.
Be careful when filling in the answer sheet. Write the words in the right spaces.
Common Answers
