Join the Get Speaking English Accountability Group
In language learning, consistency is one of the biggest indicators of success. We need to do a little bit every day to see real success.
Unfortunately, sometimes it can be hard to stay motivated, especially when you're studying alone.
I'd like to try and change this for members of the Get Speaking English community. You're invited to join me and other members on Discord for a language learning accountability group.
What is an accountability group?
An accountability group is a group to help you get stuff done. Typically, people might use a group like this to reach health and wellness goals, or to carry out projects. We can also adapt this ideas to language learning since consistency is one of the biggest indicators of success. Learning any language, including English, is a marathon, not a sprint. We can use accountability groups to help us stay focused by sharing daily and weekly goals with one another. We can also use the group to share our successes and failures, and get support from one another.

Who can participate?
Anyone, including those learning languages other than English, is welcome to participate. However, please keep in mind that the key focus of the group are English learners and all posts in the channel should be done in English.
What kinds of things can I add to my to-do list?
Accountability groups can be used to accomplish a variety of goals, from ones related to our health, to journaling or studying, or even staying on top of daily chores. However, please keep in mind that this group should be focused on Language Learning. Your goals can be directly related to to your goals (example: taking a class 2 times a week) or indirectly related to your them (example: cleaning your desk so you have a clutter-free space to study in).
What will you (Axl) use the group for?
I think it's important to lead by example, however I'm obviously not a student of English. Therefore, I am probably going to share goals related to organizing and creating content and events for the Get Speaking English community and, when the timing is right, my own language-learning journey.
How to get involved
To make this happen, I've made a new section of the Get Speaking English Discord server. Information about how to join is shared in the closed Telegram groups. You can also email me for a link at axl@getspeakingenglish.com .
I joined but I don't see the group
The group is part of the larger Get Speaking English Discord server.
Currently, when you join the group, you'll be asked whether you're studying English, or if you are there for the study group.
If you didn't get asked to join it, or can't find it, you can go to settings and select "Show All Channels". The channels for the group are under the header "Accountability".
