One of the biggest challenges about becoming proficient in a language is learning about all the little details. At an advanced level, students are expected to be able to talk about a variety of topics in detail using topic-specific phrases and vocabulary. English exams test student's abilities to discuss these topics, too.

Most students become comfortable talking about their own areas of expertise, hobbies, jobs and interests, but struggle when conversing about unfamiliar topics. This is because it can be hard to find opportunities to discuss such topics in everyday life. Friends, language exchange partners, and even tutors may be reluctant to have such conversations, so students may find it challenging to practice these subjects.

This is where Get Speaking English can help. Every month, I examine a topic for a few weeks. I also try to intersect current topics with previously-covered ones as well. I do this to give students ample opportunity to learn, think, and talk about new subjects while reviewing old ones, with the goal of deepening their knowledge and giving them time to experiment with new vocabulary. This approach encourages students to step out of their comfort zones, facilitating the development of the skills needed for success in both life and in their exams.

Who is Axl?

My name is Axl T. Ernst and I've been helping students learn English since 2018. I'm also a language learner myself and I know how hard it is to learn a second language as an adult with other commitments.

I'm very dedicated to my students and their success. After getting tired of my students coming to class citing bad information about English they found on social media, I decided to create my own channels for sharing high-quality exercises and resources. 

My aim is to provide students not only with great information and content to learn from, but also give them ideas about how to study daily. Many of these methods have been effective for myself and my high-level students. I also know that not everyone can afford private lessons, so I try to offer a variety of ways for people to engage with me and make learning accessible.
